1985 to 1986 military service as a staff doctor
1986 to 1988 research work on the “growth of the human brain” in the Institute of Neuropathology at the University of Sydney, Australia, with a postdoctoral scholarship from the German Research Foundation
1989 to 2003 doctor at the neurosurgical clinic at the Nordstadt Hospital in Hanover (head Prof. Dr. M. Samii)
Obtained specialist recognition in neurosurgery in 1994
1995 Awarded the Wilhelm Tönnis scholarship from the German Society for Neurosurgery for “Clinical and experimental studies on syringomyelia”
1995 Experimental and clinical studies on syringomyelia in neurosurgery at the University of Los Angeles, USA (head Prof. Dr. U. Batzdorf)
